The focus of this training will be:
– Understanding the role of emotionally intelligent leadership in the workplace and developing skills in how to handle these dilemmas

– Understanding and implementing various leadership styles and approaches

I.C.E Challenge Day
Business Education Partnership

During this session you will develop your Innovative, Creative and Entrepreneurial (ICE) Skills, as you work with designers, artists and managers from local companies to help them solve a current CHALLENGE they face in their company.

Employers will explain their CHALLENGE and you will work in small groups to find a solution. Collaborate with companies who will listen to your solutions and possibly implement them

Print Making Training
The Button Factory, Kitchener

Drypoint belongs to a family of printmaking techniques that includes etching and engraving. Instead of making marks on paper with a pen, lines are cut into a surface called a plate. These lines hold ink, which is transferred to paper by an etching press. One plate can produce many impressions. In this workshop, participants will create a limited edition of original drypoint prints. No experience necessary; all materials provided; bring a visual reference (4 x 6) if desired.

Video Production & Video Editing Software: Adobe Premiere
Conestoga College – Doon Campus

Video production and post production skills are in demand everywhere. At Conestoga College, we will teach you skills that allow your creative vision to stand out. This one-day workshop is designed to introduce you to professional camera equipment, editing software and video production possibilities such as green screen effects.
In the morning, the focus will be on video production in a HD (High Definition) TV studio and on location to create a short video newscast production that you will edit in the afternoon.
The afternoon will focus on special effects and video editing using Adobe Premiere to create your final video production.
During the workshop, you will have a chance to see what it’s like to be part of Conestoga College’s School of Creative Industries by working with current college students.
Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes as these are requirements for entering  the studio.

During this training session, you will learn how to look for shapes, patterns and textures to create abstract impressions using people and places.
Part of the afternoon will be spent using Adobe Photoshop to create photo illustrations and manipulate and adjust your photos taken earlier that day!

A digital camera/ cell phone
Connector cord to a computer
Fully charged battery & charger
Memory Card with lots of space
USB drive (to bring home your altered images)

User Experience Design

Programming Description
User experience (UX) designers are trained ICT professionals who contribute to new and emerging media and technologies. They do this by:
· Gathering and analyzing information about users and their goals, needs and tasks;
· Creating design solutions;
· Iterating designs through prototyping, testing and evaluation; and
· Measuring efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction with their designs.

UX professionals are in high demand and have been ranked among the top 100 best jobs. This is likely due to the fact that UX professionals are valued in a wide range of industries including retail, medicine, technology, finance, education and government.

The UX Design degree program at Wilfrid Laurier University invites SHSM students to attend a Design Thinking workshop. Using a practical hands-on approach, this workshop will support students working in teams to conceptualize, sketch, and test their ideas around the development of an innovation new product, new service or the radical innovation of processes.

Learning Objectives
·        To expose the student to state of the art perspectives, ideas, concepts, and solutions related to the design and execution of innovation driven projects using design thinking principles.
·        To provide a social and thinking space for the recognition of innovation challenges and the design of creative solutions.
·        To develop an innovation and creativity mindset for problem identification and reframing, foresight, hindsight and insight generation.

Ladder Safety Training

Improper use of a ladder could cause significant injuries. Ladder safety training provide the necessary knowledge and skills required to reduce or eliminate worker injuries.

Learning Objectives:
– Upon completion of this course the trainee should be able to:
○ Identify various types and grades of ladders
○ Identify ladder hazards and common causes of accident
○ Understand the different applications of ladders and the importance of proper selection.
○ Know how to safely setup and use a ladder.  Know how to inspect, store, maintain and properly care for ladders.
○ Understand safe methods of climbing and descending ladders
○ Know how to store and maintain a ladder
Course Outline:
– Introduction to ladder safety and fall prevention
– Types of ladders and their applications
– Potential hazards and common causes of accident
– Proper ladder selection, inspection and use
– Proper care, storage and maintenance of ladders

HOW DOES IT WORK?

!!! SHSM will cover the cost of your CPR Level C & Standard First Aid!!!

*please note that the cost of the blended learning course will not be covered. Please call St. John Ambulance to register for the two-day course to take advantage of this certification free of cost.*

1. Call St. John’s Ambulance below to set up a training session (you cannot register online if SHSM is to pay for the training).

2. You MUST CALL St. John’s Ambulance (do not register online) to inform them:
– your name & school
– you’re a student of the Specialist High Skills Major program
– you’re a student with the Waterloo Catholic School Board
– you need CPR Level C & Standard First Aid

3. Attend training on the date you selected.
*NOTE: You will be charged a fee if you do not attend

4. St. John’s will invoice the SHSM program. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY, and your training will be listed on your progress report by the end of the summer!
