Are you interested to learn more about a career in Business?
ZOOM Career Days are fantastic events that help students to explore and learn from industry professionals, who can talk about their careers, teach you what to expect and how to set yourself on the path to success! Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of these information packed days!!

You will hear from a keynote speaker and participate in breakout sessions of your choice. Topics include: Business Idea Generation, Marketing, Pitching, Budgeting, Sales, LinkedIn, Networking, Resumes & Interviews!

Bus departs at 8:45am and returns by 2:20pm
Training time runs from 9:30am-1:45pm

Finance & Quickbooks Training
Conestoga College, Doon Campus

Learn how to keep track of day to day business transaction and managing expenses with Quickbooks software during this 1 day workshop with a Conestoga College instructor.
The day will focus on real-world case studies dealing with financial statement analysis and decision making.
You will also work with tools like common size income statements, balance sheets and may be asked to give a short presentation on your group’s case study.

Bus departs at 8:05am and returns by 2:50pm
Training time runs from 9:00-2:00pm

Lunch is provided.
You will earn 1 elective certification.

Leadership, Problem Solving & Communication Skills Training
KW YMCA Outdoor Centre, St. Clements

During this one day session, you will work in groups focusing on initiative tasks which include leadership, problem solving & communication to build on these skills. Outdoor education staff will challenge you to understand how these 3 skills are connected, how they affect the workplace and other business situations.
You will also get a chance to participate in low and high rope tasks!

Bus departs at 8:00am and returns by 3:05pm
Training time runs from 9:30-2:00pm

Lunch is provided.
You will earn 1 elective certification.

2 DAYS: Wednesdays, Nov. 21 & 28, 2018
Standard First Aid & CPR-C Training
St. John’s Ambulance, Cambridge

Every employer wants to have a safe worker! Take this certification to learn how to assist other’s when in need. Plus, add it to your resume, as it’ll help you find a part time job! After completing this two day training session you will receive 2 certifications in CPR-C and Standard First Aid.

 

You must attend on both days to earn your certifications!

Training time is from 8:30am-3:00pm on both days

Lunch is provided.
You will earn 2 mandatory certifications

3D Printing & Scanning
Tinker Truck

3D printers are being used around the world in so many ways! Printing art, frosting on cakes, and other things like wrenches, and even houses. Take this 1 day training session to learn how this is possible, and how you can print your own product in your school or community.
In this session, you will learn how to make models that move and articulate right off the print bed! Experiment with different Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, including those you can use at home for free. Plus! Experiment with 3D scanning, discuss different kinds of materials to print with, and learn how to design new real-world object to sell, play with or solve problems.

Training is held at Monsignor Doyle CSS.
Event time runs from 9:00am-2:00pm

Lunch is provided.
You will earn 1 elective certification.

Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship (ICE) Challenge Day
Communitech Hub , Downtown Kitchener

 

 

During this session you will work with designers, artists and managers from local companies to help them solve a current CHALLENGE they face in their company.
Employers will explain their CHALLENGE and you will work in small groups to find a solution. Collaborate with companies who will listen to your solutions and possibly implement them. Click here for the agenda and pictures

Ethics, Equity & Inclusion Training
WCDSB – Board Office

These 3 key topics are critical in the Business & Health world: Ethics, Equity & Inclusion.

This hands-on workshop will get you thinking about how you treat others as you work through scenarios and situations about ethical dilemmas.

Learning to treat others as equals, embracing diversity and celebrating differences will be explored in discussions, games and group work.

Training runs from 9:30am-2:30pm.

You will earn 2 elective certifications

Semester 2

2 DAYS: March 2019  (Date TBD)
Graphic Art & Design Training
Conestoga College, Doon Campus

During this 2 day, hands-on workshop, you will learn more about creating graphics and logos. Using Adobe Illustrator, you will use the drawing and tracing tools to create a logo. Using Adobe InDesign, you will learn how to work with text, graphics and layout tools to create a poster for the SHSM program.

You must attend on both days to earn your certifications!

Training time is from 9:00am-2:00pm.
Lunch is provided.
You will earn 2 elective certifications.

Take training in your OWN time

HOW DOES IT WORK?1. Call St. John’s Ambulance below to set up a training session (you cannot register online if SHSM is to pay for the training).2. You MUST CALL St. John’s Ambulance (do not register online) to inform them:
– your name & school
– you’re a student of the Specialist High Skills Major program
– you’re a student with the Waterloo Catholic School Board
– you need CPR Level C & Standard First Aid

3. Attend training on the date you selected.
*NOTE: You will be charged a fee if you do not attend

4. St. John’s will invoice the SHSM program. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY, and your training will be listed on your progress report by the end of the summer!

HOW DOES IT WORK?1. Select the online training you’d like to complete from the list below:2. Email tara.fitzgerald@wcdsb.ca with your:
– Name, school, major and type of training you’d like to take3. Complete online training on your own time.

4. Email tara.fitzgerald@wcdsb.ca to confirm you’ve completed training
