SHSM Online Training Opportunities

If you want access to certifications below or don’t see your SHSM Brightspace, email shsm@wcdsb.ca with:

  • Your full name

  • Your school

  • Your SHSM major

  • The training(s) you’re requesting

Arts and Culture Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 3 from the below list:

  • Basic Electrical Safety
  • Fall Protection Awareness
  • Health & Safety-Basic
  • Infection Control
  • Ladder Safety

Business Students need to take a minimum of 2 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 2 from the below list:

  • Ergonomics Training
  • Ethical Considerations
  • Health & Safety- Basic
  • Infection Control Training

Construction Students need to take a minimum of 2 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 2 from the below list:

  • Asbestos Awareness (advanced training in a technique)
  • Basic Electrical Safety
  • Chemical Hazard Awareness (advanced training in a technique)
  • Confined Space Awareness
  • Fall Protection Awareness

  • Infection Control
  • High Pressure Washing Awareness (advanced training in a technique)
  • Lift- Truck Awareness Training (advanced training in a technique)
  • Lockout/Tagging
  • Traffic Control and Signaling

Energy Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 3 from the below list:

  • Concussion Awareness
  • Ethical Considerations

  • Infection Control (please note infection control is considered a mandatory training, and does not count as one of your 3 electives)
  • Pandemic Influenza Training (advanced training in a technique)
  • Toxicology (advanced training in a technique)

Horticulture and Landscaping Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 3 from the below list:

Hospitality and Tourism Students need to take a minimum of 2 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 2 from the below list:

* These certifications require the participant to have access to a webcam during the final exam. Only the first attempt at these courses will be paid for by SHSM.

ICT Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 3 from the below list:

Non-Profit Education Stream Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online.

  • Ethical Considerations (please note Ethical Considerations is considered a mandatory training, and does not count as one of your 3 electives)

Sports Students need to take a minimum of 3 elective certifications. Some may be in-person, some may be online. You are welcome to choose any 3 from the below list:

SHSM students are automatically signed up for these certifications during their Co-op semester:

  • WHMIS
  • Customer Service
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Health & Safety-Basic

Co-op is a mandatory component of the SHSM program.
